Vancouver Laser, recognizing that the anatomy of aging skin is really a mixture of different problems, combines its laser resources to treat these areas at the same time. Experience has shown that treating all these areas during the same visit instead of only treating one problem per visit, as treatments are traditionally done, enhances the overall effectiveness of the treatment. Patients see results faster and less time is spent in treatment compared to treatments for individual problems.
Skin problems are often located at different levels in the skin. To effectively treat these areas, it is necessary to have the means to deliver the right type of treatment to the correct skin layer. The wrong type of treatment is both wasteful and pointless. The clinic uses four different means of ensuring that the right type of treatment goes where it will do the most good.
The four treatment dimensions used at Vancouver Laser are: (1) diamond microdermabrasion to clean and prepare the skin for deeper laser treatments; (2) the Titan laser procedure to reach deep into the skin and stimulate the collagen contractions necessary to tighten lax skin; (3) the laser genesis procedure addresses the diffuse textural changes associated with aging skin: pore size is reduced, cobble-stoning is flattened and fine lines are minimized and; (4) the laser photo genesis treatment targets a variety of superficial pigment changes induced by the sun. This procedure mitigates and often eliminates age spots and generalized redness resulting in a more uniform skin color.
Each of these four treatment dimensions can be used in combination with others during the same visit or alternating visits to create a synergistic effect where the results of the blended treatments are greater than the sum of individual treatments. Prior to any treatments, a prospective client has a complementary no cost private consultation with a staff physician and our senior laser technician. During this visit, we learn what the client wants to achieve, questions are answered, various treatment approaches are discussed and a individualized treatment plan most beneficial to the client is developed.
When using more than a single treatment dimension in the same visit, we usually start with the deepest reaching procedure and terminate with the one having the least penetration of the skin. Therefore, the Titan laser procedure would precede the laser genesis or laser photo genesis treatments, and the laser genesis treatment would precede the laser photo genesis treatment. This approach allows the treatment at one skin level not to be affected by treatment at a different level. To enhance and leverage the results of a prior treatment, we recommend scheduling treatments two to three weeks apart.
A typical four dimensional skin rejuvenation treatment usually begins with a diamond microdermabrasion treatment. Unlike more traditional microdermabrasion treatments that use fine particles to sandblast your skin, diamond microdermabrasion technology uses natural diamond chips plated to a stainless steel surgical wand to cleanly and effectively remove dead skin layers and expose healthier skin. There are no loose particles to contaminate you or the environment.
This new technology is also able to treat the skin much closer to lips, noses and the eyes—areas off limits to the older particle microdermabrasion technology due to the risk of loose particles contaminating and inflaming these sensitive areas. This treatment, by removing the layer of dead skin cells, enhances the effectiveness of the follow up laser treatments as the dead skin cell layer often acts as an insulating layer that can reduce the level of treatment energy reaching deeper skin levels.
The Titan laser procedure works to minimize the effects of gravity on the skin. To treat lax and sagging skin, infrared light is used to heat the water of the collagen bands in certain deep skin layers. As the skin ages, the bands of collagen that keep the skin tight and firm begin to loosen and sag. Stimulating these collagen bands causes them to retract and pull the skin tighter. The clinical result is skin that not only looks firmer but also feels firmer.
The laser genesis treatments work with skin layers that are not as deep as those where the Titan procedure works best and focuses on the various textural changes of the skin associated with aging. The laser energy used in this procedure stimulates collagen regrowth so that fine lines are minimized; pore sizes are reduced and help to smooth skin texture. In addition, this treatment induces mild erythema which promotes increased absorption of the treatment wavelengths used in follow up photo genesis treatments.
The laser photo genesis treatments are designed to treat a variety of superficial skin pigment changes that are induced by exposure to the sun. Overexposure to UV light from the sun can cause age spots, generalized redness and telangiectasia. Laser photo genesis treatments help to minimize or eliminate these sun caused effects and result in a more uniform skin coloration.
