Feeling & Looking Great: Tightening Your Skin Without Surgery
Vancouver Laser Skin Care Clinic boasts By Ernie Geigenmiller
Got a blemish or wrinkle that you want to become history? Or a leg vein that’s driving you crazy? A “turkey neck” or sagging facial skin you want tightened up? As we age, there’s an innate desire in many of us to continue to look our youthful best, and sometimes that requires more than exercise, eating right and getting enough sleep. Sometimes it requires a little cosmetic correction.
But what’s right for you? A facelift? Laser treatment?
Since everyone is unique, it’s best to do your homework, and consult your health care provider. Although facelifts and plastic surgeries are good options, there’s a lot to consider since many people prefer to avoid going under the knife.
If that’s your situation, laser treatment may be your best option. Laser treatment has changed in recent years to become a quicker, more effective, less expensive, less risky option for those who’d rather not have a facelift.
You may be thinking about the following questions:
What laser will work best?
Which laser works best on your skin type?
How much down time?
Where to get laser treatment?
What are the risks?
These are all excellent questions, and the answers depend on your needs, available technology, and the experts who work with these technologies on a daily basis. Laser Breakthrough: Hair, leg, and face vein removal, rosacea treatment, sun spot removal & more with one machine. Given the complexity and variety of laser devices on the market in the last several years, the type of device used had a lot to do with your skin type and the work that you want done.
That’s changed dramatically in the last 12 months when the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved an infrared light device that tightens facial/neck/torso skin at a reasonable price often with no down time.
When Cutera, a leading laser research and development firm, based in Brisbane, Calif., made the announcement about the approval of its Titan laser (an upgrade to its superb XEO machine), many of the nation’s leading dermatologists and laser aestheticians were eager to promote its benefits and remarkable results.
Cutera is consistently on the cutting edge of laser products with a string of positive and proven clinical track records, and they outdid themselves with the Titan.
The Titan is literally changing the industry. With one system, practitioners can offer permanent hair reduction on all skin types, tighten facial/neck/torso skin, and perform a complete range of vascular treatments. The Titan represents the next-generation in non-ablative combination skin therapy.
“It’s an excellent machine that has offered superb results to many of our patients,” said David J. Goldberg, M.D., a leading dermatologist in New York and New Jersey, in a statement. “We have 100 percent satisfaction from our clients. The Titan really does tighten the skin without surgery.”
So, what is the Cutera XEO with Titan upgrade?
It’s actually a 1064nm long pulse YAG laser that comes with two upgrades that allow it to function as an Intense Pulse Light (IPL) laser and as an infrared unit. It’s really three lasers in one:
The Titan is a laser-like device that is held on the skin, and as it gradually passes over the areas of the skin being treated, it sends out a series of heated zaps that go below the skin’s surface. These heated zaps repair and stimulate collagen, which gives skin its elasticity.
“It was created for people who are weary of the needle and scalpel,” says Bob Shine, Cutera’s Director of Marketing. “Our products help greatly with skin rejuvenation, and the XEO product with Titan upgrade can do hair removal, treat facial veins, legs veins, and help people with all skin types. It’s truly a breakthrough.”
Patients who are using the Titan upgrade are generally trying to slow down or reverse the natural aging process. What happens is with time and exposure to the sun, the collagen fibers underneath the skin’s surface stretch and loosen, causing skin to loosen and look either wrinkly or somewhat droopy.
The Titan upgrade deals with this elasticity problem by delivering infrared light deep into the dermis (below the skin), where the collagen resides. The laser’s effect is to repair the collagen and create tighter, smoother skin. The Titan is also pain-free to many patients, which is a big leap from previous devices on the market.
The Titan can be used for any area of the face, neck or body where a patient wants to remove wrinkles or mild sagging. Research also shows the Titan is excellent in correcting drooping skin on the elbows and knees.
Patients speak out; Experience matters
So, is it really that good?
Susie Steinberg says yes.
The Clark County resident recently received treatments for rosacea, face veins and leg (spider) veins at Vancouver Laser Skin Care Clinic (VLSCC) in Fishers Landing.
“Everything at Vancouver Laser was first rate,” she said. “I was able to come in, receive my treatments, and go on with my day. It’s truly remarkable and the results are amazing!”
Steinberg has been receiving laser treatments since January.
“I was referred to her by Dr. Cynthia Gray, a Vancouver plastic surgeon,” says Steinberg. “She saw Lori Keller’s work at Vancouver Laser and suggested I go over there. She [Keller] was very attentive. During the treatments she engaged in conversation, made me feel at ease and made the time pass away very quickly.”
Steinberg also realized after the first treatment she could put makeup on right away.
“I thought the experience was going to be painful, but it wasn’t!” she added. “The treatments were so effective I don’t even have to wear face makeup now! I would recommend Lori and Vancouver Laser to anyone.”
Shine says one of the key elements in the success of the XEO with Titan upgrade is the professional who handles the device. “It’s important that a patient is reassured the handler is experienced in laser treatments,” he says.
Lori Keller is the chief laser aesthetician at Vancouver Laser, and is one of the region’s most experienced laser technicians. She’s worked with plastic surgeons and has always been at the forefront of laser cosmetic treatment and technology Given the sophistication and flexibility of the Titan, the best results are obtained by having a highly trained and experienced person – such as Lori Keller – operating it.
These innovative light-based devices have revolutionized aesthetic medicine. “Procedures and applications that were once only a dream are now a common reality,” says Keller, who has performed more than 30,000 laser treatments during her nine years in practice.
Vancouver Laser is the only clinic in Vancouver to use Cutera’s Xeo with Titan upgrade. “It’s a wonderful machine,” says Keller. “We use it everyday here and people are just delighted.”
Maya Miller received laser treatment for leg veins and was astonished at how quickly the veins went away. “After just a few visits, they’re practically gone,” says Miller. “The care at Vancouver Laser was wonderful and so was Lori. And it was pain free!”
Rebecca McGuire received treatments from the Titan upgrade and was delighted with the results. “I recommend Vancouver Laser to everyone,” she said. “You get excellent results and the cost is very reasonable.”
So what are the costs? Keller says laser is less expensive than a facelift, and that the costs vary from patient to patient. Curious consumers can have a complimentary consultation to help determine treatment and cost. It is also a great opportunity to discover what such a laser can do for you!
What about the risks?
“The risk and fear have changed,” says Shine. “We can treat more people in a safer way, and improvements are always being made to enhance results and minimize risks. Patients should feel comfortable with what’s happening in laser technology.”
Cosmetic laser treatments have indeed enabled more people to achieve what only a few years ago was available to a smaller population. Laser is limited in scope when compared to plastic surgery, but in many instances the results are just as amazing.
