Traffic to Increase Around Sifton Park Construction Site

Clark County Public Works recently awarded a contract to the Nutter Corp. for earthwork at Sifton Neighborhood Park, which will increase traffic around the park for several weeks.  Sifton Neighborhood Park is located on NE 131st Avenue near NE 71st Street, a few blocks north of Fourth Plain Road.

As part of this work, Nutter will haul away gravel excavated from the park, which will save taxpayers approximately $10,000 in construction costs.

“In an environment of skyrocketing construction costs, we are always looking for ways to help save money on these parks projects,” said Public Works Director Pete Capell.  “We would like to ask local residents to please bear with us during this time as we work to create their new neighborhood park as quickly and economically as possible.”

The earthwork will begin on January 25 and take approximately six weeks to complete, weather permitting.  Work will occur Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Approximately 40-80 dump truck trips per day will be required to haul gravel and dirt into and out of the park.  The dump trucks will travel along Fourth Plain Road and enter the park from 131st Avenue.  Motorists on 131st Avenue will experience some traffic delays while trucks enter and exit the park at low speeds.

The Sifton Neighborhood Park development project began in late November 2006.  Design and construction is being funded by park impact fees, which are paid whenever a new residential property is developed, and the real estate excise tax, which is paid whenever property is sold. Maintenance of the park will be funded by the Greater Clark Parks District, a special district approved and funded by voters in the unincorporated urban area of Clark County in 2005.

Questions about construction may be directed to Bill Bjerke at 397-2446.  General questions about the park may be directed to Jilayne Jordan at 397-6118 x 4949.  More information about this park development project is also available on the Web at: www.clarkparks.org/projects/sifton.htm.
