New Computer – Rejoice! Old Computer - Recycle!
What about all that packing foam?

Now that your new computer is all set up and ready to go, what are you going to do with your old one?  If you are a resident of Clark County and its cities, you have a number of choices for your old computer and other electronic items, as well as all that block foam used for packing the new machine.

If your old computer still has some life left in it – That doesn’t mean your 10-year old machine that still lights up when you turn it on but doesn’t do much else. – you could donate it for reuse.  Or if it is no longer working or is outdated, you can recycle it.  To donate for reuse, go to http://recyclingA-Z.clark.wa.gov to locate a not-for-profit organization that accepts used computers or TVs. Or you could donate it to the CREAM (Computer RE-use And Marketing) program.

CREAM, a partnership between private and public agencies in Clark County, accepts unwanted computers and computer related materials from county residents at no charge.  Usable computers and monitors collected are refurbished, reformatted, and distributed to deserving residents.  CREAM also accepts unwanted televisions, monitors, printers and other electronic items for recycling at the following collection sites:

On January 6, 2007 Clark County residents can recycle block foam for free at Clark College from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The collection site is on the parking lot adjacent to the soccer field in the 1900 block of Fort Vancouver Way.  As part of a pilot collection program, PC Plastics will collect clean block foam at this site the first Saturday of each month.  Businesses may also bring small loads at no charge. Small loads are loads that will fit into a passenger/cargo van; larger loads will be directed to PC Plastics’ Portland site.

The foam can be any color, but it MUST be clean and bagged/boxed. No plastic wrapped yellow urethane foam and NO hot tub covers will be accepted. Peanuts that snap when you bend them are accepted, if they are double bagged.  See the www.pcplastics.com web site for more details on what they take.

Only Washington licensed cars will be served. Participants must remain on site until staff have examined and accepted the material; unacceptable material will be returned to participants for disposal. NO “dump and run” allowed.
