Pirates of Penzance

The New Blue Parrot Theatre brings this merry band of Pirates to life on the stage at Wy’East Middle School.  Evening performances are April 12-14th, 20-21st, and 27-28th at 8pm.  Matinee performances will be held on April 21st and 28th at 1pm.  Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and youth.

In The Pirates of Penzance, Frederic was mistakenly apprenticed to a band of tenderhearted, orphaned pirates by his nurse.  Frederic, upon completing his 21st year, rejoices that he has fulfilled his indentures and is now free to return to respectable society.  However, fate plays harshly with Fredric when The Pirate King points out he was born on February 29th, a leap year, and his contract was until his 21st birthday.  By the end, the pirates, the Major General, his large family of beautiful but unwed daughters, and the timid constabulary all contribute to a cacophony that can only be silenced by a call to patriotism.

Under the talented direction of Jennifer Johnson, The New Blue Parrot brings old and new faces to the stage.  New Blue Parrot alumni Andy Roberts, Nyle Smith and Hugh Roberts return in leading roles. Allison and Gary Bock make up a daddy-daughter duo from Ridgefield on opposite sides of the law.  (Allison portrays the innocent Mabel and her father Gary plays a pirate.)  Tim Warren, Vice-Principal of Liberty Middle School in Camas, is leaving order and discipline in the classroom and makes his Pirattical debut as Samuel the Pirate.

The New Blue Parrot Productions provides a broad spectrum of the arts to the community. It is comprised of The Blue Parrot Theatre, The SW Washington Wind Symphony and The Blue Parrot Children’s Theatre. Also coming up this summer is our Children’s Theatre’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  When fall winds blow in, The New Blue Parrot Theatre will be back with it’s production of  Fiddler on the Roof.  To learn more about these exciting shows and our educational programs, log onto www.newblueparrot.com
