NASA Visits St. Joseph  Catholic School

Students at St. Joseph Catholic School heard from NASA today.  NASA AESP Representative Brian Hawkins spoke to students in Kindergarten through 6th grade about NASA aircraft designs and Leonardo DaVinci’s aircraft designs.

6th grader Olivia Vedder, and 4th grader James Henkels.

Students also watched demonstrations of several flying models, learned about living and sleeping in microgravity like the astronauts, and actually tried on parts of a spacesuit. (see photos) Seventh and eighth grades received special demonstrations in their classrooms about Aeronautics by Mr. Hawkins.  The students caught on quickly about NASA’s “M” word.  When faced with a scientific possibility that has yet to be determined, their answer is always “MAYBE!”  The next step is to test it out and find the real answer, a good concept for children to remember when learning.  The NASA Aerospace Education Services lecture program aligns its workshops with National and State Learning Standards and is provided to Pacific Northwest schools with no charge.
