Discovery Walk Festival, April 27-29

Burt Paynter, Event Director for Vancouver’s International Discovery Walk Festival announced today that KGW Northwest NewsChannel 8 will serve as the event’s first major media sponsor.  “We are thrilled with KGW's sponsorship, this takes the festival to a whole new level,” said Paynter. “Between the promotions that will air on KGW NewsChannel 8 in prime time and the exposure on their web page www.kgw.com, more than 3 million viewers will see and hear about Discovery Walk,” added Paynter.  KGW Northwest NewsChannel 8 on-air talents Stephanie Stricklen and Drew Carney are also scheduled to emcee various events throughout the 3-day festival. 

Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard is excited about the potential of drawing more and more people to historic Vancouver’s downtown. “The impact for building tourism and promoting our stores, restaurants and hotels in America’s Vancouver is phenomenal,” added Mayor Pollard, “particularly this year as our City celebrates its 150^th birthday.”  Mayor Pollard leads the annual Mayor’s Friendship Walk at Fort Vancouver as part of the event which takes walkers through the old stockade fort. 

The 2007 Vancouver International Discovery Walk Festival is April 27^th through the 29^th and includes walks, bikes, swims, a family fun walk, Mayor’s Friendship Walk and fitness expo.  The event draws thousands of people from all over the world to Vancouver, Washington each year.  Last year visitors came from 22 countries, 18 states and throughout the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver/Portland metropolitan area.  The mission of the event is to promote a healthy lifestyle through exercise, to enhance international friendship and to promote economic, social and cultural benefits for the community.
