County Auditor Sets Date For
Retail Fireworks Permit Lottery

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office has received 230 applications from individuals and groups interested in selling fireworks in unincorporated Clark County. A lottery drawing will be held on February 14 to select three applicants for the available retail fireworks permits.

The lottery will be conducted by Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey at 9 a.m. on February 14, 2007, at the Elections Office, 1408 Franklin St., Vancouver. Applicants do not have to be present to be selected. The lottery drawing is open to the public.

Lottery winners will be required to submit a permit application and fee before a retail fireworks permit is issued. Additional information about the permitting process is available at www.clark.wa.gov/commdev/documents/firemarshal/fireworks.pdf.

Clark County will issue 40 retail fireworks permits in 2007. The number of permits issued is regulated by the county’s Fireworks ordinance and is based on the county’s population. Each year, permitted retailers have the option to renew or forfeit their permit.  Forfeited permits are available through the lottery system the following year.
