Finishing Touches Bring
Out Uniqueness of Rooms In a newly remodeled room, only accessory can really bring out the fresh paint on the walls, the new carpet and curves of the furniture. Finishing touches are what bring out the uniqueness of each room. To personally bring your thought and interest together into one room is what makes decorating and remodeling worthwhile. Therefore, they should be chosen with care. Mona Sanghal of Elegant Interiors by Mona, asks the question, when you look at a magazine that features beautifully furnished rooms, what draws attention to your eye the most? Is there a trend you like or a style that develops as you find what interests you? Are there certain colors and shapes that just make you gleam when you see them in a room? She believes compatibility is important unless you are gifted with the talent to make seemingly unrelated items combine into a total look. For example, fine china would look out of place displayed in a casual family room, yet fine art might fit right in to that same room if you are a connoisseur and the right subject matter is chosen. Another discord would be a rustic collection displayed in a formally dressed room. Keep in mind that though harmony is important, boredom is to be avoided. A contemporary setting does well with an antique here or there. The element of surprise eliminates the possibility of a dull room. If you keep in mind the mood you are trying to accomplish, and keep a color accord, you should do well. Now all you need to do is find the right items for your awaited room makeover. So where do you find these treasures? First rummage through things you already own. Books are always accessories that warm a room with grace. If you have a gift from a friend that you treasure, display it. Think creatively; cleanse your mind of the mundane, then conjure up thoughts of material items you own that you find pleasurable to look at. Be inventive. Don't look at things the normal way, look at them sideways, upside-down, inside out--think, think, think. If you can’t find something you own that you would like to be displayed in your home, then you may have to turn to the stores and do some shopping. Ebay has a variety of rare finds that would look delightful in one’s living, dining or whatever room. If online shopping sounds boring or uninteresting to you, you can always check at the local furniture store of specialty stores that provide the original décor most people are searching for. Displays at those stores can also be inspiration for an idea to decorate with. In a room that is to be decorated, there are must haves and pieces that add a touch of comfort as well as style. Greenery is one of them, a fake or live plant looks lovely in the corner of rooms, set on tables, by lamps and between hung mirrors. Color on the walls and colored rugs that lie on the floor can give a lounging affect to guests. Pillows on chairs and couches give a home like feel. They can tone up or down a room with their shape and color. Also, they are comfortable to snuggle with when sipping on some warm hot chocolate with friends on a cold day. Maybe you’d like to go away from traditional, but stay classy; what about a favorite scarf? Wouldn't you get more pleasure out of it if you framed it and hung it on the wall rather than have it hiding in the closet to be worn only on special occasions? It may sound different from your personal style, but thinking outside your box is key. Not so far that you find your décor uncomfortable and uninviting, but just enough to reinvent yourself. Placement is also an important of decorating. Scale, balance and proper proportion are as important when accessorizing as they are when choosing the right furniture for the room. An oversized picture placed over a sofa in a room with exceptionally high ceiling can balance the weight of that wall with drama. A tree with abundant foliage can balance a weighty sectional. Think about these few tips and run with them. A small room will do well with a minimal amount of accessories. Too much will clutter the room. The small room usually calls for small accessories. These things can be found at any store, perhaps a small potted plants from the local florist. Greenery always adds a nice touch to an indoor space. If you are a collector, be careful to display your discoveries in an organized manner. Tastefully done, the collection will look good; otherwise it will look like clutter. Neat decorative boxes like old jewelry boxes that look delightful on tables. Keeping color, theme and mood in mind will help you achieve a balanced look. Also, if you are having trouble remodeling, ask someone for advice that knows your style. They could help bring what is in your mind out to the drawing board. But remember, accessorizing a room is a personal thing and should be a reflection of you.
