Clark County Hires New Workplace Diversity Coordinator

“Clark County is committed to increasing the ethnic, cultural and social diversity of its workforce and ensuring that diversity is a key priority of our organization.” This is part of a policy statement adopted by the Board of Clark County Commissioners in December 2006 (See full statement below.)

To strengthen diversity in the Clark County workforce, the Human Resources Department has hired Rekah Strong to serve as Workforce Diversity Coordinator. She will be the primary staff person coordinating the county’s equal employment and diversity programs.

In the next few months, Strong will be forming and facilitating an employee advisory committee consisting of representatives from most county departments. Other job responsibilities will include:

  • Working with department managers, staff and others to carry out programs and activities intended to advance diversity.

  • Conducting or coordinating employee training.

  • Representing the county in community events and outreach activities.

Strong, who is a Vancouver resident, has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in social work with an emphasis on management and program administration. Both degrees are from Portland State University. She has previous experience as a child welfare manager and most recently worked for the State of Oregon, playing a key role in managing the diversity function for the Department of Human Services, especially in Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties.
